In true Sofia from Golden Girls fashion... picture it. Sandy Springs 1999. A young girl who weighed about 225, had braces, no license, rode the bus every day, someone who loved drama and music, only friends were band geeks and was a total book nerd. Yep, as hard as it might be to believe I was not the coolest kid in high school. I was a loser... a total loser. God bless the Glee writers for making a show that glorifies losers like me (even if it is twelve years later) This is their most recent original song. I LOVE it!!! It is everything I wish I could have said when I was the tortured kid in school. Way to go making it cool to be a loser!
In church this past Sunday the pastor was talking about just that...being a loser for God. He told the story of the prodigal son. How he came crawling back desiring to be a servant in his father's home. His older brother's reaction was basically "so what? Who cares if he is here? I was the faithful one, not him. He is a loser" How many times have I prided myself on feeling like I was more like the older brother? I have prided myself on my faithfulness to God and at times even judged the other "losers" that I have seen walk away from God. But the father humbles himself, the one who did nothing wrong, and runs to scoop up his loser son in his arms. He is overjoyed at his son's return and sees nothing of a loser in him because his love for his child overshadows it all. I don't know about you but I would rather be the loser younger son for God any day rather than the pretentious older son and I am willing to bet that if you are honest you know you want to be a loser like me! Bring on the braces!
Luke 15
21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ [2] 22 But the father said to his servants, [3] ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. 23 And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. 24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.
